This is a quote from Mr. Horace VanderGelder from the 1969? film production of "Hello, Dolly!" where the script was written by Ernest Lehman...though I don't know if it was in the original broadway script or the book which the movie and broadway play are based on Thornton Wilder's book (titled The Merchant of Yonkers and later The Matchmaker).
